What began as POOR KNIGHTS OF THE TEMPLE came about after the first crusade to free and win back Jerusalem from the Mohammedans ended. Once secured and the fighting had ended most of the crusaders after deciding their vow was fulfilled returned enmass  to their homes. This left only a handful of nine crusaders including Hugues dePayen a soldier of Champagne took a vow to defend the Christian kingdom.

In the beginning the humblest beginning the poor men who decided to defend the spirit OF Christ begged for alms. They would sit in doorways chanting "Alms for the poor, Alms for the poor." Bedraggled bearded and smelly they would gather near an river after a hard days begging and pool their resources.

Praying the Lords Prayer. "Our Father which art in heaven hallowed by they name, .

After prayers they would Eat bread and take wine with their meager meal (today we'd say they say they were holding a potluck. ) Men would share the exploits of their day and how they could better their chances of defending the cross.

continuing with the lords prayer they would say .." give us this day our dairy bread and forgive use our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, ...") Then they would recite their version of the rosary saying, ".... hail Mary full of grace blessed art thou amongst women blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus, Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Holy Mary mother of GOD...")

As De Molai burned at the stake his screams summoned both Philip the Fair and the Pope before an audience with GOD. Within a year of De Molai's death both Boniface and Philip died.)
